Hair Restoration

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP for short) is an effective, increasingly popular, non-surgical, and natural treatment designed to stimulate hair growth and improve hair thickness. This treatment uses platelet-rich plasma derived from a small sample of your own blood, which is processed and then carefully injected into areas of thinning hair. PRP then releases growth factors to stimulate hair health, thickness, and regrowth of dormant hair follicles. With minimal downtime and natural results, PRP therapy has become an important part of hair restoration plans for many of our patients seeking to maintain fuller, healthier hair.

Most commonly used for:

  • Male pattern hair loss
  • Female pattern hair loss
  • Postpartum hair loss
  • Stress related hair loss

Description of treatment:

At your appointment, your blood will be drawn and spun to extract the platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The PRP will then be injected into the areas of hair loss. Appointments typically take about 1 hour, with the injections themselves taking less than 15 minutes.

You should expect some mild discomfort with injections; however, several pain mitigation options will be offered for your comfort, and treatment time is typically brief.

Yes! You may have some mild tenderness, itching, and bruising, but generally people are able to continue with their normal activities immediately after treatment.

PRP results are most effective and dramatic when done as part of a comprehensive plan based on your specific needs. At your consultation, we will discuss possible medications and supplements to use along with your PRP treatments.

We recommend a series of 3–6 treatments to start, each spaced approximately 1 month apart. After you have received your initial series, you will need 2–4 treatments annually to maintain your results.

You may notice slowing of hair loss and thickening of hair in the first few months, with hair regrowth starting around 6 months.

Since the product being used is your own blood, this procedure is considered very safe with minimal side effects.
